Introducing Senior Occupational Therapist - Claire Dickson

A huge welcome back to senior Occupational Therapist, Claire Dickson.  Claire worked with our practice early in her career, and now rejoins our team bringing many years of paediatric experience, working with children, adolescents, and their families with a range of diagnoses and challenges. Claire has a particular interest in the use of pretend play to help children meet their goals. She has additional training as a therapy dog handler and has provided animal assisted therapy as part of her role with another organisation. She provides supervision and mentoring both within the team and also to external paediatric occupational therapists and allied health clinicians who provide animal assisted therapy.

What is Occupational Therapy (OT) and What Do OT’s do?

Occupational therapy helps children develop the skills they need to grow, learn, and play. It focuses on making everyday activities easier for kids, like dressing, eating, writing, playing with toys, or participating in school and sports.

Occupational Therapists look at what a child might find hard to do and create fun and supportive ways to help them build strength, coordination, focus, or confidence. The goal is to help children become as independent and capable as possible while also enjoying their daily lives.
